The first piece can be found at 25th street and 5th avenue on top of Pentagram design’s office.
Artist and Sculptor, Antony Gormley is the one to blame for that pain in your neck. He created a public art installation which kicked off yesterday and the exhibition will include 31 naked human figures (Anatomically correct) to be placed on ledges and rooftops throughout the city including the Empire State Building which is causing some concern from police and onlookers.

Gormley says that as he’s installing the sculptures he’ll be trying to get them “as close to the edge of the buildings as possible.” The bodies which are true body casts of the artist himself, will be installed by the 26th of this month and on view through August 15th.

See if you can spot them all.
Send us an email or image and let PopUpNewYork know where they are.

Thursday, February 11, 2010  |  No Comments

valday Aside from all that snow, LOVE is also in the air! Yeah folks, we’ve reach that time of year: when every couple is gushing with love. In this blog, I’ll be bringing you the Top Five PopUp Picks for Valentines Day. Five Categories with Five very special things.

1) If you’re the type who likes to see the sights with your sweetie, then you should check out the PopUp Pick for Most Romantic Walk in a Park. Pop over to the cleverly named Sunset Park in Sunset Park, Brooklyn. As the highest point in Kings County, it offers spectacular views of Manhattan’s skyline, as well as the Statue of Liberty and the hills of Staten Island.

2) If you’re the type with a huge sweet tooth (like me!), then grab your lovebug & pop over to the PopUp Pick for Best Chocolate: The Chocolate Room in Park Slope, Brooklyn. With a dessert menu ranging from pudding to sundaes to shakes, ice creams, and delicious cakes, The Chocolate Room is a sweet-treat lovers dream come true! Located at 86 Fifth Avenue, take the 2 or 3 train to Bergen Street or the 2, 4, M, Q, R, W, or D trains to Atlantic Avenue for some delicious post-Valentines Day dinner desserts. I bet your mouth is watering right now, isn’t it?

3) For a fancy dinner in Manhattan, I’d normally send you to The Shake Shack. But since it’s a special occasion, check out Blue Hill Restaurant in Greenwich Village. With a menu filled with traditional American dishes & a spectacular wine list (or so I hear, I’m underage!), Blue Hill is PopUp’s Top Romantic Restaurant Pick. For reservations & more information, go to BlueHillFarm.com

4) Living in Queens? Cool. Wanna surprise your honey with flowers? Also cool. Can’t decide where to find them? Not cool. Don’t worry though, because Ivy’s Florist Shop in Long Island City is our Top PopUp Pick for Flowers. Whether you need to order an arrangement or a single bouquet, this place can do it all. The best part is – they deliver all over the city, it doesn’t matter where you live! Good prices and beautiful flowers sounds like a perfect match. To get there, take the N or W train to 30th Avenue and walk to 2920 Cresent Street or call 718-267-2920 to order.

5) Here it is. Last but not least, this may be the most romantic pick of all! So romantic, that there has to be more than one. Now, if you’re certain that you have found the absolute love of your life and you can’t spend another day without them (and all that other sappy stuff), then here are the Top PopUp Picks to Pop The Question. Yes, THAT question! Here goes:

Bow Bridge in Central Park, On the Brooklyn Bridge, The Fountain at Lincoln Center, South Street Seaport, Ice Skating Rink at Rockefeller Center (my brother just witnessed this happened & when he told me, I thought it was cute.), The Boardwalk on Staten Island, or do it BIG in the “Big Apple” – in the middle of Times Square. A little cliche maybe, but who cares!
Alright, thats it for the PopUp Top Picks. You don’t have to tell your significant other that I gave you these ideas. I’ll let you take all the credit … it’s more romantic that way! If you have a great place you’d like to share or a Top Pick of your own, let me know! Have a great Valentines Day!
