My favorite author J.D. Salinger is exposed.
The Morgan Library + Museum has letters on display from the famous writer.
The correspondence is between Salinger and artist Michael Mitchell, a friend of more than 40 years and designer of the original book jacket for Catcher in the Rye.
After several owners and holders of the letters they made their way to the Morgan through a donation in 1998.
Out of respect for the authors privacy, these letters were kept restricted until Salinger’s death and no one was allowed to read them until last week when the Morgan Library exhibit opened.
Spanning 1951 to 1993 these typed and handwritten treasures disclose much about the relationship between Salinger and Mr. Mitchell and they are on display until May 9th.
